2016 Volkswagen Tiguan MSRP, specs, review

The Volkswagen Tiguan is the only German offering in the compact crossover segment in a sea of Asian and American offerings. The car is quite capable on the road offering a great driving experience which is something different than that of its competitors. There are drawbacks though. The price is usually higher than that of its competitors with the base model of the Tiguan going for more than $28,000 while the premium models will fetch as much as $44,000 or more, depending on the selected options. The car has just been updated for the 2015 model year but it is going to receive an even greater update with the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan which will be released on the US and European markets at the end of 2015.

2016 Volkswagen Tiguan MSRP

Unlike what the early rumors have said, it seems that this update will be focused mostly on the technology part of the car, meaning that 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan will get a lot of upgrades inside the cabin rather than an all new platform and engines. Most other things will remain very similar to those of the 2015 model with the all new model being scheduled for the late 2017 or early 2018. Its price starts just under $25,000.

New Volkswagen Tiguan 2016 model review

The biggest problem of this model of the Tiguan is the already old interior which is fine in terms of space and feel but it is just too dull and not that great when it comes to the feeling of the materials. The 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan on the other hand is set to receive an all new infotainment system called by VW the MIB II which is going to be powered by one of the most powerful mobile processors and it will run a modified version of the Android operating system. Just like you would expect from such a high tech system, it will be compatible with all the major phone mirroring systems and it will provide advanced connectivity like 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. This is also going to be the first time when the Tiguan will feature two USB plugs which will be able to charge devices or stream music to the infotainment system.

The exterior of the upcoming model on the other hand will remain pretty much unchanged which is to be expected considering it is not a new model but rather just a mild update which will introduce on the car new technologies. The new 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan which will get a new look will be released some time at the end of 2017 and until then, the 2016 model will have to do with a couple of new exterior colors as well as a new set of wheels for the top end model.

Towing capacity and Specs of 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan

Engine wise, the new 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan is going to use the same 2.0 liter turbocharged inline 4 as the current model which unfortunately doesn’t manage to excel in any areas. The output is average with 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque, but considering it will be the same engine, it will suffer from quite a bit of turbo-lag and the fuel consumption is not that great either with many tests averaging around 23 MPG which is at the lower part of its class. The engine can be mated with a 6 speed manual gearbox on the base models while a 6 speed dual-clutch automatic with a manual shifting mode can be had on the higher end models. Front wheel drive is standard while a 4Motion all wheel drive system will be available as an option. We hope that the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan will finally get the great 2.0 liter diesel from the Jetta which is good for 150 horsepower and the best part about this diesel engine is that it can provide with ease more than 30 MPG on average.
