2016 Dodge Dakota pickup truck – The older generation Dakota was a body on frame truck which was quite successful thanks to a great pair of engines, good interiors as well as one of the toughest chassis out there. Unfortunately, after the Fiat acquisition of Chrysler, the Dakota was discontinued and it was said that it will never come again on the market. Luckily though we found out a few months ago that the officials of Dodge made an agreement with Mitsubishi to co-develop a new generation light duty truck – new Dodge Dakota 2016.
2016 Dodge Dakota redesign changes
Things are going to be equally good both on the interior and on the exterior of the 2016 Dodge Dakota. This pickup truck will feature an interior worthy of a family car, meaning that it will offer the same level of equipment and a very similar design to the new generation Dart. The exterior on the other hand is going to be something unique which will probably borrow from the design of the RAM the design of the grille as well as its headlights. At the back though we expect to see a lot more Mitsubishi than in the front which would be quite normal considering this is going to be a shared platform.
Dodge Dakota 2016 specs
Engine wise, it might get the best of both worlds. We expect the base 2016 Dodge Dakota will come with a Mitsubishi supplied 2.0-liter aspirated inline 4 which should be good for around 180 horsepower. This will be quite fuel efficient but also powerful enough for most people. The higher end engines on the other hand will be supplied by Chrysler and VM Motors. There is most likely going to be a turbocharged version of their 2.4-liter unit with as much as 250 horsepower. This should be plenty powerful even for the most demanding needs. The Dodge Dakota 2016 diesel version will be a 2.8-liter inline 4 which will provide 160 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, being basically the same as that in the new Wrangler. As far as the transmission goes, rear wheel drive and four wheel drive will be available with the different engines.
2016 Dodge Dakota release date and price
We don’t know much about what it is going to be called or what it might look but we do know for sure that it will be sold Globally by both companies under different names. The 2016 model is likely just going to be the concept model that should be presented next year, while the actual model’s release date will be closer to 2018.
