The current model of the Taurus is actually based on a 15 years old design which dates back to the 1999 Volvo S80. Because of this, the car feels slow and unresponsive and even Ford acknowledged that this is a problem, especially with the sleeker and much better cars to drive of today. Luckily though, a 2016 Ford Taurus is in the works and so far it seems that it will use an extended platform of the Fusion. Result of that is that the new Ford Taurus 2016 will not only be around 500 to 800 pounds lighter than the current model, but it will also give it a much better ride quality as well as it will allow Ford to do a lot more with the car.

Exterior
The 2016 Ford Taurus exterior hasn’t been shown to the public just yet but we expect it to be a lot different than the current generation. If we consider that it will be based on the Fusion platform, we expect it to borrow a lot of its design too, which is not that bad considering that the Fusion is one of the better looking car out there. It will come with the new smaller hexagonal front grille with color stripes and smaller rectangular headlights integrated into front fascia.
Interior
The interior of the Ford Taurus 2016 will also get a boost, both in materials and space. Ford is expected to use premium plastic, leather and aluminum in different combinations in order to give the best possible experience there is. Standard equipment will include rear view camera, a satellite navigation system, surround audio as well as a triple zone automatic climate control system. Inside the new 2016 Ford Taurus will be heated and cooled front seats, new dashboard with wood and metallic details with 8” LCD touchscreen display while infotainment system will be by Sony audio system with 12 speakers.

Engine wise, this new 2016 Ford Taurus is expected to come with a few different engines. The base will likely be the 2.3-liter EcoBoost which debuted earlier this year on the Mustang. This engine will be making 305 horsepower and around 300 lb-ft of torque and it will be mated to Ford’s new 8-speed automatic gearbox which will power the front wheels. Moving up the range, a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 might become available in the SHO model but Ford also gave a few teasers about something new in the range, a V8. This is likely to be a 5.0-liter V8 which will offer from 420 to 450 horsepower and around 400 lb-ft of torque and it will only be available with their new 9-speed automatic and all wheel drive system. This would be perfect in it because it will give the Ford Taurus 2016 similar performance as an AMG model while costing a lot less.
2016 Ford Taurus release date and price
This new 2016 Ford Taurus is expected to hit the market somewhere in early 2016 or late 2015 and when it will be launched, it will cost around $28,000 for a base model while price could go up to $45,000 for a fully equipped model. While the starting price is pretty similar to the current generation, the top Ford Taurus 2016 model will cost more due to a new engine and also a lot more equipment in its base form.
