2016 GMC Sierra changes, price, specs


First presented in 1998, GMC Sierra came as a full-size pickup truck, and together with Chevy Silverado, which basically has the same characteristics, represents the best GM’s truck vehicles. The current generation of this model was unveiled in 2013, meaning that it is still pretty fresh. But, the GM is always a few steps ahead of time, and the next generation model is already planned for 2018. So the current generation will receive mid-cycle refreshment and be presented as the new 2016 GMC Sierra.

2016 GMC Sierra changes

When talking about the exterior design, we have to say that the Sierra models are always with a unique look. Just like before, the base Sierra version will wear a rectangular grille, smaller chrome web and bigger front bumper, while the Denali luxurious models will offer a much more highlighted look and it will be quite more eye appealing. Headlights will stay unchanged while illumination system will be updated. When it comes to the rear end taillights will be redesigned together with rear corners.

As far as the interior is concerned, there aren’t many details regarding the changes that will be applied in the new GMC Sierra 2016. From what we know, the cabin will be made of premium materials, offering a huge amount of space for all passengers, and the center console will be redesigned. Standard features will include A/C, and a premium 6-speaker sound system, while the higher trim levels will offer SAT/NAV and leather upholstery.

New GMC Sierra 2016 engine specs

When it comes to the engine line-up, it will be the same as for the previous model. The 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 model will offer three engines. The base version will be a 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6 unit capable of producing 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque. The second engine will be a 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8, and it will deliver 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The most powerful Sierra 1500 model will offer 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine, which is capable of pumping out 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The new Sierra 2500 HD model will come with a 6.0-liter Vortec V8 engine under the hood, and it will generate 360 hp and 380 lb-ft. As for the diesel version, the 2016 Sierra 3500 HD will come with a 6.6-liter Duramax V8 diesel engine, delivering 400 hp and 765 lb-ft of torque. There are also some rumors saying that the 3.0-liter diesel unit with turbocharger will be used for the better fuel efficiency. Regarding the transmission, the 6-speed 6L80 automatic gearbox will probably remain the same.

2016 GMC Sierra price and release date

The new 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 will start from $26,500 and go up to $32,500, while the 2500 HD will begin at $32,500 and go to $57,000, and the 3500HD version will cost from $36,500 and finish at $53,500. The release of Crew Cab version is expected in a month or so, while the other two models will be seen in the showrooms a few months later. The main competition to the 2016 GMC Sierra on the truck market will be Nissan Titan, Ford F-150, Toyota Tundra, Ram 1500 and its sibling the Chevy Silverado.
